Anyone who knows me will tell you that I can’t resist a bit of sparkle. I think I’m actually becoming a magpie as my collection of all things shiny is growing by the day and the most sparkly thing I love most of all is, of course, jewellery.
And I know I’m not alone! it's important that your jewellery and watches is covered by your insurance policy.
Worryingly, even though we all have our household insurance cover in place (don’t we?) those precious family heirlooms could actually be at risk. You see the small print on home insurance can prove tricky when it comes to items that are particularly valuable.
Like me, you have probably presumed that your insurance will protect your belongings in any situation. In fact, possessions such as a piece of jewellery and artwork are often just too valuable.
Sounds strange I know, but it’s because most insurers have a cap on what they’re prepared to pay out for individual items if they’re lost or stolen.
The only way to get a peace of mind and protect your very own crown jewels is to ensure they’re listed separately on your policy. You’ll probably have to pay extra to make sure they’re specifically covered.
And if you’re one of those homeowners who actually has no home insurance cover at all, what are you waiting for? There’s no time like the present to sort out a policy.
Take this opportunity to get your precious items valued and included on your cover to reduce the risk of being underinsured. Finding you’re not actually covered when it’s too late is a sad realisation that we can all avoid.
I’m off to dig out my policy and take a close look at the small print – my treasures are too precious to lose!
