Henshalls Covers the Cost of a Vital Public Liability Insurance Policy for a Local Volunteer Organisation

Henshalls are supporting the Friends of Telford Town Park by paying for their annual public liability insurance for the next 12 months.

It’s the fifth year running that Henshalls, has supported the Friends of Telford Town Park.

Henshalls managing director, Mark Freeman, said they were always keen to help local organisations and support worthy causes.

“We are delighted to be working with the volunteers from Friends of Telford Town Park as they make such a vital difference to this valuable green area.

“It’s very important that they get all the help they can to allow them to continue operating safely and legally, and so we decided to cover the costs of their cover to make life a little bit easier.”

FOTTP chairman Chris Pettman said support from local companies was the key to ensuring their programme of maintenance could be carried out regularly and efficiently.

“We’re very grateful to Henshalls for their ongoing support as it means we don’t have to worry about whether our insurance is up-to-date or whether we will have to find extra finances to pay for the policy which is a great relief.

FOTTP began in 2003 as a group of three people who all felt that the park needed some extra care and attention. The group was formally constituted in 2004, and currently consists of over 20 members from all walks of life.

The volunteers are involved in many different activities throughout the park’s 400 acres including gardening, hedge laying, scrub clearing, promotional events, installing bat and bird boxes, and other general environmental maintenance work.

Chris Pettman, chairman of the Friends of Telford Town Park (FOTTP), was recently nominated for the accolade Coronation Champion recognising and celebrating extraordinary volunteers across the UK.

He was hand-picked by a judging panel presided over by the Queen Consort thanks to his contribution to the community in Telford.

Chris also paid tribute to his colleagues in the group, adding: "I can only accept this award on behalf of the team that is The Friends of Telford Town Park. Without everyone pulling together to achieve what we have done over the last 20 years it would count for nothing.

"Also a big thank you to our sponsors – thank you so much to everyone who has played a part in our phenomenal success."

The FOTTP assist with the upkeep of the award-winning park with a team of volunteers looking after the Chelsea and Maxell Gardens and beyond, Around 700,000 people visit the park every year and it is thought to be one of the largest urban town parks in Europe.
