Do you know the difference between Driving For Work and Driving To Work?

Delivery driver driving van with parcels on seat outside warehouseDid you know that if you do have drivers in your business, then there is a general responsibility on the owners of businesses to ensure that the vehicles are in good road worthiness at all times whilst being used for work. If they're not, business owners can also be liable.

One area that always causes an issue is understanding the difference between Driving For Work and Driving To Work. Driving for work is one of the most dangerous things workers will do. The law applies to both company and grey fleet vehicles. A grey fleet vehicle is owned and driven by a worker for business purposes. Vehicles used under cash allowance schemes are grey fleet too.

Commuting to work is not generally classified as driving for work, except where someone’s journey starts from their home and they are travelling to a work location that is not their normal place of work. Health and safety law does not apply to commuting.
