Luxury Vehicle Theft

Recent spike in luxury vehicle thefts

An unfortunate trend in luxury vehicle theft has emerged.

The cost of living has also increased dramatically and police departments are under ever-increasing pressure, so it should come as no surprise that as a consequence theft is on the rise

Thieves are becoming bolder and less intimidated by vehicles that are parked in driveways, behind gates or in secure parking garages.

If you own a luxury vehicle be extra vigilant and take the necessary precautions to protect your vehicles.

The following tips could help mitigate the risk:

  1. Always lock the car securely when left, even for a short time, and keep the keys on you.
  2. Think about an immobilizer. In addition to a tracker, an immobilizer such as a Thatcham S5 plus could offer an extra layer of protection from key-cloning, key theft and hacking.
  3. Never leave your vehicle unattended with the engine running, which is an offence punishable by a £20 fine and may invalidate insurance cover.
  4. Never leave your keys in the vehicle or ignition, even inside a locked garage.
  5. Always close your windows and lock the vehicle, even if it is in front of your home.
  6. Always park in a high-traffic, well-lit area, if possible.
  7. Consider anti-theft devices such as steering wheel locks or fuel cut-off switches.
  8. Have your vehicle identification number (VIN) etched into each piece of glass on the vehicle as a deterrent.
  9. Investigate the purchase of a motor vehicle alarm system if you live in a high-theft area
  10. Don’t leave personal belongings, business equipment or tools in your vehicle
