How Organisations Respond to Cyber Attack.

Did you know 32% of UK business plus 24% of UK charities experienced a cyber security breach or attack in the past 12 months according to a government survey?

The financial cost of such a breach can be significant.

These are the average costs for the most disruptive cyber incident among organisations reporting an outcome.

  • Businesses overall £3,770
  • Medium and large business £15,800
  • Charities overall £2,310

Alongside financial losses, cyber incidents can severely damage a company's reputation.

Thus cyber-security defences are critical, last year, 66% of businesses and 68% of charities took steps to protect themselves from future attacks.

Measures included:

  • Additional Staff training
  • Installed or updated anti-virus / malware software
  • Changed or updated firewall or system configuration.
Additionally the three most common controls implemented to bolster organisational cyber-security were:

  • Using up to date malware protection.
  • Enforcing strong password policies.
Backing up data securely via cloud services.

However only 29% of businesses and 35% of charities  had a formal policy covering cyber security risks.

Furthermore only 13% of businesses and 11% of charities had formally reviewed cyber-risks presented by immediate supply chain.

The cyber landscape is ever evolving meaning there's always room for improving security efforts.
