Safe Driving Tips for Summer

Summer is a busy time for travellers. Holidaymakers - including overseas tourists and Britons on staycation - can cause heavy traffic during the summer months contributing to increased driving risks.

Here are our 6 tips to help you travel safely in the summer:

1. Allow for More Travel Time - Anticipate delays in heavily congested areas and be prepared for other drivers to brake or turn sharply

2. Be aware of road works - slow down, remain alert and heed road signs when driving through areas with road works

3. Practice Mindful Driving - to avoid distraction, familiarise yourself with the route ahead of time and keep children and pets in the rear seats.

4. Schedule regular car maintenance -  Ensure the cars cooling system is topped up and that tyres have at least 3mm of tread and are inflated to the correct pressure

5. Don't drink and drive - if you intend to drink find another way to get home

6. Protect teenage drivers - Consider enrolling them on an advanced driving course, model attentive driving and set curfews to prevent teenagers from driving too late at night.
